Neighborhood Housing Services of the South Shore is an approved Housing Counseling Agency. NHS is certified by MassHousing, the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and Citizens for Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA).

The staff at Neighborhood Housing Services has had many years of experience working in the housing industry. We have worked in the non-profit arena creating and administering affordable housing programs. Over this period we have assisted hundreds of buyers and have extensive knowledge of down payment and closing costs grants available throughout the state.

First Time Homebuyer Workshop
Each workshop consists of two sessions. Participants must attend both parts. Session 1 reviews credit, budgeting and how these topics influence buying power. Session 2 includes information from lenders, real estate professionals, insurance agents, attorneys, home and lead paint inspectors. After completion of the workshop candidates may be eligible for many first time homebuyer programs, including downpayment and closing cost assistance.

Registration is required. Fee is $15.00 for this two-part workshop. Sorry no refunds.

At each workshop participants will have the opportunity to be pre-qualified by at least one lender at no additional cost. Other professionals at the workshop will include:

Down Payment Assistance Grant Program
Neighborhood Housing Services has acquired funding from the Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD) to be used towards down payment and closing cost assistance for first time homebuyers. Funds are available based on need. This interest free loan is forgiven after the homebuyer resides in the property for 5 years.
