NHS of the South Shore offers lead paint services through MassHousing's
"Get the Lead Out" program. Loans are available at low and/or no interest.

What is Lead Poisoning?
Lead poisoning can occur in several ways, but most commonly through breathing or eating lead-contaminated dust, paint chips and soil.

What Can Lead Poisoning Do to Kids?
High levels of lead in children’s blood can produce permanent nervous system damage. Research also shows that even low levels of lead can result in:

		Reading and learning disabilities
		Speech and language handicaps
		Hearing problems
		Lowered I.Q.
		Behavior problems

Is Your Child Lead-Safe?
Don’t be too quick to answer "yes."
Consider this: the effects of lead poisoning are often invisible. In fact, these symptoms may result from a disorder or illness other than lead poisoning. The only way to be certain is through blood testing.

Symptoms can include:

		Slower than normal development
		Behavior problems
		Short attention span
		Restlessness
		Tired, poor appetite, or stomach aches

Deleading Program
Objective: To promote lead safe housing.
Homes at Risk: Houses built before 1978.

MassHousing "Get the Lead Out"
The "Get the Lead Out" program has been designed to provide low cost financing to owners of 1-4 family properties to remove lead paint from their homes and reduce the possibilities of lead poisoning in children.

Loan Guidelines
Eligible Applicants: Owner occupied units, investor-owners (who rent their property to income-eligible tenants), and nonprofit organizations.

Loan Amount
The following limits have been set for each eligible property type:

Single-Family: $30,000

Two-Family: $35,000

Three-Family $40,000

Four-Family $45,000

$87,000-$107,600
